Wednesday, February 23

Currently wasting time at work. I've been here since 8:30 but the first client isn't until 1pm. I just brewed a fresh pot of coffee and now I'm about to read my new book, The Alchemist. Edrina first introduced me to Paulo Coelho...

OH HELL YES. Just as I was typing away, the FedEx man came and brought me a gift:

Its Wednesday. Which means that my check is inside this package! Just when I thought I was going to be broke this week, I've been blessed by FedEx.

Okay, back to Paulo Coelho...
The man is incredible. Eddy let me borrow The Zahir, which has changed my life. If you haven't noticed already, I've been quoting Coelho throught my entire blog. In fact, let me quote him again:

"Just as some people are addicted to work, so others are addicted to fun. Both groups are unequally happy, convinced that they are missing something, but unable to give up their particular vice."

This is remarkably true in every way. When I work too much, I complain about how there is not enough fun in my life. I love to work and earn money, but I also treasure my social life. Sometimes, when I have too much fun for too long, I complain about how my life lacks structure and discipline and seriousness. I wish I could have an equal balance of both, but I haven't found a way to satisfy both ends.

Coelho's words have opened my eyes to a lot of things that are wrong in the world we live in. Occasionally, I'll have those "days" where I'll study interactions between people- their conversations,  mannerisms, and so forth. I wince with disgust when I hear them moan and groan about their trivial problems, or how their husband left them, or that their son just inherited a gazillion dollars and that they fired their stock broker last friday. I hear it all the time at work and I get so sick of it that I just want to click my heels 3 times and magically disappear.
I'm a victim of this social bubble, and I can't say I'm entirely innocent. I, too, engage in dry and boring conversations for the sake of making small talk. I'm ranting, now, aren't I?

Everyone should just read The Zahir. Coelho explains my feelings better than I can.

Off to read the first page of The Alchemist. But first... I need to brew some more coffee.

Paulo Coelho is amazing! I have read four of his novels and he most definitely changed my life. I suggest reading "Brida" that one was my favorite of the four!
